Atlantic City Expressway outsources toll collection to Faneuil


The South Jersey Transportation Authority (SJTA) board formally decided today to privatize manual toll collection services on the Atlantic City Expressway voting to accept a bid from Faneuil Inc of Hampton VA. At the board's monthly meeting the outsourcing resolution was passed unanimously.

Faneuil and three others responded to an August 29/30 RFP for toll services September 15.

Billboard outrage implicates Atlantic City Expressway - wrongly it turns out


It was a slow news week in the Philadelphia/southern Jersey area but NBC TV found a scoop, and scores of others rushed in to pick it up - the story of a billboard beside the Atlantic City Expressway that they said "outraged many" and had some locals "up in arms." It was a dancer's bottom clothed only in strings of beads advertising a 1920s-style musical show called Moonshine Follies that will run at a Resorts Casino in Atlantic City from Feb 20 for two months.

Atlantic City Expressway AET conversion has end May-2011 target


Bart Mueller executive director of the South Jersey Transportation Authority (SJTA) says they are shooting for conversion to all-electronic tolling (AET) at the Atlantic City Expressway (ACE) by "Memorial Day next year" - May 30, 2011. Planning of the AET and detailed work on the new toll system is well advanced, but civil construction to build about 50 gantries is only in procurement as we write.

Until this Friday if you were on NJ50 at Interchange 17 in Hamilton township you could only get on the Atlantic City Expressway to travel west to Philadelphia. And traveling on the Atlantic City Expressway you could only exit to NJ50 if you were traveling from Philadelphia.

Project completions - Illinois Tollway, SJTA


Illinois State Toll Highway Administration (ISTHA locally known as the Illinois Tollway) announce the completion of what they call their systemwide Rebuild and Widen. They say Dec 19 will mark the opening of the last components of a huge $3 billion project in which they reconstructed and rehabilitated and widened some 120 miles (193km) of their 286 mile (460km) network of Chicago area tollroads.

Atlantic City Expressway operating exclusively westbound would be the major evacuation route from the south Jersey shore in case of a hurricane or tidal surge, according to Atlantic County emergency planners.  Normal eastbound lanes are planned to be reversed so both roadways would take vehicles away from the shore to safety further inland.

Toll rates are due to be increased 50% on the Atlantic City Expressway just after midnight Monday Nov 17 to come into effect Tuesday Nov 18 at 00:01, toller South Jersey Transportation Authority says.
