TransCore making moves on national IOP - enhanced eZGo Anywhere tag and nationwide account management
2013-09-30: TransCore is proposing an enhanced version of its multi-protocol eZGo Anywhere transponder as a major vehicular platform for national interoperability plus the option of account management at a national level. Company president Tracy Marks has put the proposal to the Alliance for Toll Interoperability (ATI) in a letter their board of directors is considering this week.
2013-09-19: The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) operator of the Dulles Toll Road (DTR) is planning to get E-ZPass electronic toll (ET) usage to "above 90%" before considering a transition to open road tolling. MWAA staffer Chris Browne said this in a slide in a presentation to the Dulles Corridor committee this week.
TransCore is being awarded a $16.5m on-call maintenance and conversion contract at the Dulles Toll Road toll collection system. The uncompeted contract is justified by the operator Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority on the grounds that their price is "fair & reasonable" and that the existing 17 year old toll system was developed by TransCore in the first place and they have proprietary rights to the equipment and software so it "can only be repaired/replaced by the incumbent (contractor)."
2013-08-19: Delaware DOT is integrating toll collection more tightly into its motor vehicles division which handles the state's motor vehicle registry and issue of vehicle license plates. Division director Jennifer L Cohan told TOLLROADSnews in an interview Friday that with the growth of open road and all-electronic tolling she sees increasing "synergy."
TransCore prepared to license use of patented encryption protocols in competitors readers to support interoperability (IOP)
2013-04-18: TransCore has quietly told major customers that it is prepared to license the use of toll tag protocols eGo and SeGo in the readers manufactured by Kapsch and 3M/Sirit. There has been no discussion of the license fee $-amounts or terms, our sources say. TransCore made the offer in order to keep the protocols in play for adoption for national interoperability (IOP).
Orange Co Calif TCA Toll Roads contract with TransCore for new all-electronic toll system for $36.4m (w 2nd ADDS)
2013-04-15: The Toll Roads as they are branded in Orange County California are due to go cashless and all-electronic (AET) in the spring of 2014 according to announcement of contracts the boards of the Transportation Corridors Agencies have just approved with TransCore.
TransCore patents seen as obstacle national interoperability - toll industry leaders asking for clarification
2012-11-18: Patents on electronic toll systems in Florida, Texas, Oklahoma and other states using 6B+ sticker tags are seen as a possible obstacle to national interoperability. TransCore patents on eGo Plus sticker tag systems are of sufficient concern for the leaders of several toll authorities to raise the issue directly with TransCore management.
A new in-lane toll systems manager is being sought at the Transportation Corridors Agencies in Orange County CA. Jim Rhodes who had the position of deputy director of technology left recently. By one account he was fired by acting CEO Lisa Telles.
The thrust of reports we have is it was felt he was too close to TransCore which has maintained and operated toll systems equipment, both electronic tolling and coin machines for many years.
Tracy Marks is the new President of TransCore ITS taking over from John Simler. That puts Marks in direct charge of tolls and traffic management projects of the company. Chairman and CEO of Roper Industries (the holding company for TransCore) Brian Jellison is quoted as saying the handover of day to day management to Tracy Marks allows John Simler to "focus on strategic growth opportunities in the broad RF segment."
TxDOT hires TransCore for front-end "statewide toll systems integration, maintenance," cancels FSTech BO/CSC
2012-07-21: TransCore has won a front-end toll contract to do Texas "statewide toll integration and maintenance" in competition with Raytheon (teamed with ETCC, VESystems) and Telvent. This means TransCore takes over from Raytheon which has run a similar operation for TxDOT for several years.
