It's high time highways supported themselves. Gasoline and diesel tax revenues are needed much more urgently for reducing dangerously bloated government deficits.  The federal government should stop spending money on highways or transit. Those needs should be managed by the states.

The South Jersey Transportation Authority (SJTA) board formally decided today to privatize manual toll collection services on the Atlantic City Expressway voting to accept a bid from Faneuil Inc of Hampton VA. At the board's monthly meeting the outsourcing resolution was passed unanimously.

Faneuil and three others responded to an August 29/30 RFP for toll services September 15.

The resolution reads:

Ohio governor John Kasich is moving ahead with plans to lease the state Turnpike under a longterm toll concession contract. Enabling legislation passed as part of a budget House Bill 153 just ahead of the July 4 holiday. The legislation gives the state Director of Budget and Management primary responsibility for the procurement of a private concessionaire to take over control of the Turnpike from the present politically appointed Ohio Turnpike Commission.
