In New England/Ontario they talk of "holding a toll road" - charity panhandlers (LINGUISTICS)

In western Massachusetts and also in Ontario Canada they talk of "holding a toll road," as in the announcement in a newspaper in Keene ON by one Elaine Kempt that "Keene Lions will hold a volunteer toll road on Friday, May 15, from 3 until 7pm at the four corners in Keene." A "toll road" in this sense is a road with charity collectors standing in the lanes asking motorists for donations for charitable causes as they wait at the traffic signal.

4-mile spur TR in Fredericksburg VA advances

Lloyd Robinson director of transportation at the Fredericksburg VA metro plan organization (FAMPO) says he's hopeful they can put together the permits and financing for a 6km (3.5 mile) long spur tollroad off I-95 just south of the Rappahannock River. The proposed pike is designed to:

Strong public support for completing 241 TR in S California

There's strong public support for completing the 241 Toll Road (Foothill South) in Orange County California despite an unscrupulous and noisy campaign of opposition, magnified by an antagonistic Los Angeles Times and other local media. In southern Orange County where the tollroad will be built a survey of 757 voters shows 58% support completion while 31% oppose with 10% undecided.

Wiregrass Pike "Not-for-profit" tollroad proposal takes hit in FL Panhandle

It's hard slogging for promoters of a spur tollroad off I-10 in the Florida panhandle to the Wiregrass region of southeast Alabama. This week in Washington County Florida where it was planned to connect with I-10, county commissioners voted 3 to 2 against support for the project.

There's much sound and fury surrounding the proposed road and finger wagging about the secrecy of the promoters, and the "lack of information."
