2013-02-17: The New York State Thruway is converting two mainline and one side toll plaza to all electronic or cashless toll collection.

2012/12/10: Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett will open the state Turnpike's third and most ambitious cashless (REVISION) interchange Tuesday (Dec 11) at Mile Post 320 (MP320) in the Great Valley, Chester County PA on the northwest outskirts of the Philadelphia area.

2012-10-18: America's biggest toller New York's MTA Bridges & Tunnels will do their first conversion to all electronic tolling (AET) Saturday November 10 at 11pm. That's at the Henry Hudson Bridge (HHB) a cars-only commuter parkway-connected crossing over the Harlem River at the very northern tip of Manhattan Island to the Spuyten Duyvil/Riverdale section of the Bronx and to Westchester County.

2012-09-20: Randy Spader, director of operations at the Ambassador Bridge says they're aiming to go all-electronic or cashless at the first of three tollpoints about October 1st. Trucks inbound to the US from Canada will be tolled by transponder or license plate cameras only, no more cash.

2012-09-12: The Ambassador Bridge, the highest volume toll crossing between the US and Canada will go all-electronic (AET) at the first of three toll points before the end of the month. Trucks inbound sporting 6C sticker tags on their windshields will be tolled with the latest Sirit IDentity 6204 readers or they'll be photographed by JAI cameras front, rear, and side view and billed by mail.

2012-09-09: The six tollroads in the Austin TX metro area will all be all-electronic be the turn of the year, and  the last cash tolls collected will be collected Dec 31 2012 according to TxDOT plans. Mark Cross, a TxDOT spokesman told us January 1st is the present target date for ending cash toll collection on the remaining three tollroads with cash collection.

2012-06-11: The Associated Press (AP) is running a Bergen Record report that the Garden State Parkway, one of America's most heavily trafficked tollroads "could be cashless by next summer." The Turnpike Authority which operates the Parkway has a contract with toll collectors expiring July 1 2013. The contract provides that the toller can eliminate all permanent unionized toll collector positions on that date.

The Veterans Expressway FL589, a major highway  going north from the west of Tampa is having a 7 mile, 11km stretch widened from mostly 2x2 lanes up to 2x4 lanes and getting all-electronic toll (AET) collection.  It is a $236m project - estimated  construction cost $202m, design $20m, right of way $14m.

Wilbur Smith Associates and McCormack Taylor have been selected by the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission to produce a study of possible conversion to all-electronic tolling (AET). The Turnpike has made no decision to go cashless but the study is clearly a move in that direction.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike, America's oldest, already has exits where no cash is collected, and a couple in planning. It also has a number of cash lanes that are unstaffed - served by automatic toll payment machines that handle bills, coins and bank cards and dispense change.

The last cash tolls were to be collected in the early hours of Saturday morning (Sept 18) on the Selmon Crosstown Expressway in Tampa Florida. The planned conversion to all-electronic tolling (AET) began at 9.30pm Friday night with just one cash lane each direction and the beginning of license plate toll collection in the central lanes.

According to plans the conversion was to be complete buy 4:30am Saturday.
