CTRMA, the Austin Texas region toller has in less than a decade managed the difficult feat of building lots of new roads in a community that is decidedly ‘green’ in its orientation. Their secret seems to have been a serious commitment to public outreach and working hard to communicate alternatives.

2013-10-22: October 24 last year the Texas State Highway 130 segments 5 and 6 (TX130/5&6) opened for traffic southeast of Austin to I-10 near Seguin. But there's not much celebration on the pike's first birthday. Traffic seems to be under 6,000 vehicles/day, perhaps one-eighth capacity for its expressway standard 2x2 lanes.
NTE Mobility Partners-3 have gone to financial close in segment 3A of the North Tarrant Express project, one of several multi roadway, multi lane, multi interchange projects expanding the capacity and options for motorists to the immediate west and north of Dallas Ft Worth International Airport in Dallas TX.
2013-08-23: Construction begins this fall of the first toll express lanes in Texas' capital Austin. They are being added to the 2x3 general use lanes for 11.2 miles, 18km north of downtown Austin. The 2x3 lanes expressway officially Loop 1 but known locally as the MoPac after the Missouri Pacific railroad which sold right of way for the expressway back in the 1960s. The project adds 4th lanes each direction.
Construction starts soon on another tollway in the Houston area, the SH249 Tomball Tollway which will provide connections for northwestern edge communities such as Tomball to the Sam Houston Tollway SH8, the Grand Parkway SH99 and the expressway network of greater Houston. It also improves access for communities further out like College Station where the major campus of Texas A&M University is located.
2013-08-05: Cameron Country Regional Mobility Authority (CCRMA) in the Brownsville TX area is continuing all-electronic tolling on the next phase of the SH550 that will provide an expressway standard direct connection between US77 and the Port of Brownsville. In El Paso Texas the local toll authority (Camino Real RMA) is moving to develop its second toll lanes project on Loop 375 heading away from the Mexican border on the southeast side of the city.
The new toll lanes would run along the North Americas Avenue freeway lanes leading from the Zaragoza/Waterfill border crossing 4 miles to I-10 (known as 14b in CRRMA planning) and another 2 miles northeast to Pellicano Drive.
2013-04-03: March 28 North East Texas RMA and TxDOT opened an important 10.2 mile, 16.5km stretch of their Toll 49 loop on the westside of Tyler providing the first link to the interstates - to I-20. Called Segment 3B the new stretch provides a straight shot off the interstate to the southern part of the Tyler area.
2013-04-01: The 130 tollroad down the east side of the 1.87m pop Austin TX metro area is seeing strong growth in traffic and revenues. In the first two months of the year traffic on the 49 mile, 79km TxDOT portion (segments 1 thru 4) is up 20% over last year despite higher toll rates.
