MTAB&T embraces all-electronic toll conversion in report to customers


A new report to customers by New York's Metropolitan Transportation Authority (NYMTA) is mostly devoted to what's being done to make the subways and buses run better but there are couple of pages embracing all-electronic tolling at the City's bridges and tunnels. The report is titled "Making every dollar count" Agenda 2011." There's a link to the full report at the bottom.

Golden Gate Bridge to have all-electronic toll system by last quarter of 2012


Golden Gate Bridge board of directors voted today (Jan 28) to end cash toll collection at the iconic San Francisco bridge with conversion to all-electronic toll (AET) collection. The vote was 13 for AET, 2 against. Yesterday (Jan 27) the Finance Committee voted for AET by 8 to 3. The schedule presented by staff aims to go fully live with AET between September and December 2012.

First move to all-electronic tolling (AET) at New York's Henry Hudson toll bridge - gates go (CORRECTED)


Big shots at New York's MTA did a ceremonial removal of a toll gate for the cameras today at the Henry Hudson bridge toll plaza on the northern tip of Manhattan. Seven overcoated gloved officials were led in the media performance by the giraffe-like Jay Walder chairman/CEO of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority - a man of basketballer height at close to 7ft, 2m tall.  

Atlantic City Expressway AET conversion has end May-2011 target


Bart Mueller executive director of the South Jersey Transportation Authority (SJTA) says they are shooting for conversion to all-electronic tolling (AET) at the Atlantic City Expressway (ACE) by "Memorial Day next year" - May 30, 2011. Planning of the AET and detailed work on the new toll system is well advanced, but civil construction to build about 50 gantries is only in procurement as we write.

Tampa's Crosstown Expressway to go AET by fall


The Lee Roy Selmon Crosstown Expressway in Tampa will cease cash toll collection in the autumn. September is the target month for the conversion to all-electronic tolling (AET) by the east-west tollroads's operator Tampa Hillsboro County Expressway Authority (THEA).

Tampa I-4/Crosstown Exwy interchange with AET - construction under way


In the artsy, historic Ybor City area of Tampa less than two miles (3km) northeast of downtown Tampa construction has begun of the I-4/Selmon Crosstown Expressway Connector. It is in essence  an elaborate interchange between the two parallel highways at a point where they are less than a mile - 1400m or 4570ft (0.86 miles) apart, measuring them from the centerline of each roadway reservation.
