NC speeds to 75mph
North Carolina's senate transportation committee has approved a bill to allow maximum posted speeds to be set at 75mph versus 70mph at present. The bill's sponsor state senator Neal Hunt (Repub, Wake) says it will be left to the state DOT to decide which roads get the high posted limit, but he believes motorists should be able to drive faster than 70mph when they judge it safe, without having to worry about being booked.
16 states allow 75mph posted speeds but North Carolina would be the first east coast state to go over 70mph.

Posted speed limits on 54miles, 87km of tollroad in the Austin Texas area are being increased to 80mph, 129km/hr from their present 75mph, 121km/hr. The 42 mile long TX130 along the east side of the Texan capital metro area and 8 miles of TX45-SE on the southern periphery now make 80mph driving legal.
Ohio Turnpike Commission raises speed limit to 70mph, 113km/hr

The Ohio Turnpike Commission voted today four to one at their monthly meeting to raise their speed limit from 65mph to 70mph (105km/hr to 113km/hr). Argument for the rise was that the Turnpike is an unusually safe road and 70mph is safe. Its longer sight distances, gentle curves and gradients plus good maintenance are cited.

Oklahoma Turnpike system following a terrible crash last summer when ten people were killed. The crash on the Rogers Turnpike (I-44) June 26 eastbound at MM321 in Ottawa County OK occurred when a tractor-trailer plowed into stopped traffic at the scene of a minor non-injury crash.
