The new toll system built by ETCC (Electronic Transactions Consultants Corportation) for Louisiana Department of Transportation (LDOT) is the subject of a nasty set of lawsuits. ETCC claims in its lawsuit that the Department hasn't paid its bills and is illegally using licensed software, while the Department in a suit against ETCC says the toll system delivered doesn't work properly and fails to fulfill the contract.

California's old Title 21 electronic toll (ET) system spec written nearly 20 years ago by engineers at Hughes - long since departed ET - has life still. It is a requirement in the toll system RFP for the big new Port Mann toll bridge to carry Canada's Highway 1 over the Fraser River 24km (15 miles) east of Vancouver.

Utah DOT awarded TransCore the toll systems contract for the I-15 HOT Lanes
despite the fact that it was the highest cost of three competing proposers. Summary documents obtained after we first wrote show the the bids for the build part of the project were Telvent-Caseta $8.1m, ETC $10.7m, TransCore $11.3m.

Georgia state tollers have got an impressive five bids to supply new toll technology, initially to be deployed in toll/HOT lanes being built in I-85 northeast of Atlanta. I-85 with all respect to Georgia is a fiddly little toll project of small inherent importance to the industry. But the bidders clearly see it as a foot-in-the-door project that could open the way to serious toll system sales elsewhere.
