Caltrans report says Skymeter "substantially better" than straight-GPS


A Caltrans draft report says tests of Skymeter show it performs "substantially better" than regular GPS (satellite location finding) units in providing accurate locations in a difficult urban environment. Skymeter is being offered by the small Toronto start-up company of the same name as a possible wide area tolling device that could assess tolls in a variety of city streets with minimal roadside infrastructure.

Soon after their official announcement of a dual mode reader named Janus (5.9GHz and 915MHz) Mark IV are saying they've developed a dual mode antenna combining bidirectional 5.9GHz signaling and a GPS signal receiver.

ACS buys into GPS


ACS, the Dallas based government services group with a strong toll division in Washington DC is buying big in satellite/wireless based location finding. The company has completed the purchase of Transportation Management Systems (TMS) a business unit of orbital Sciences Corp, they announced today.

TMS is a leading supplied of GPS (satellite) based fleet management systems.
