Transport-'Ay-shun' shunned (LANGUAGE)
Posted on Tue, 2010-09-07 16:16
The 'Ay-Shun' word seems to be on the way out but there's confusion as to its successor. At the heart of the confusion is the fumble-mouthed Granma, the New York Times - the people who insist on lots of stops such as C.I.A. or U.N., just in case some dimwitted reader might not be able to to understand CIA, or UN? Their front page headline today reads: "Obama Offers a Transit Plan to Create Jobs" (see nearby).

The New York Times reports this week that "There are 920 football fields of available office space in Manhattan." Now we're all in favor of abandoning the olde englisch weights and measures like feet and pounds and acres and miles, none of which are logically related to one another. And it would obviously be too much to expect Granny Times to move to a grown-up system like metrics in her dotage.
New York Times - double standard for party switchers (MEDIA)

When a Democrat goes over to the Republican Party New York Times reporters erupt with scorn. The defection in the New York state senate this week by two Democrats to the GOP is called a "coup" and "clownish."
The two Democrats-turned-Republicans are treated with contempt. They are mobbed by reporters shouting questions.

The New York Times reports this morning that "Just off the New Jersey Turnpike, America - and
more specifically New Jersey - lives and eats."
That's an intro to a gorgeous set of photographs of intriguing indigenous Jersey eateries just off the Pike.
