Bill in Congress to give US Secretary of Transportation control over toll rates of bridges and tunnels

Misbehavior at Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) has provoked moves in the US Congress to give toll setting powers over bridges and tunnels to the US secretary of transportation. Veteran New Jersey Democrat senator Frank Lautenberg has introduced a "Commuter Protection Act" s2006 which would command that tolls over any bridge or tunnel on a Federal-aid highway (virtually all toll bridges and tunnels) be:

Penn Pike opens four new bridges near Lehighton on NE Extension I-476

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission had ceremonial openings today of new Northeast Extension I-476 bridges over two closely located waterways, the Lehigh River & Canal and Pohopoco Creek in the Mahoning Valley. The virtual twin Texas cities of Pharr and McAllen have just completed an upgrade of toll systems on their bridges over the Rio Grande River to Mexico. They had contracted with TRMI (which everyone calls 'Trimmie') the veteran toll system integrator head-officed on the Hudson River in Accord NY.

Washington DC metro area has America's widest bridge - a tale of two bridges, toll and tax

We hate to hurt the pride of New Jersey, but they DON'T have the widest bridge in North America, as their governor Jon Corzine, the New Jersey Turnpike Authority and others have been claiming. It's here in the Washington DC metro area.

Penn Pike gets low bids on bridges - benefits of an economic slump

About 3.2km (2 miles) of new approach road work is needed plus removal of the the 1957 spans.

In 2007 the work was costed at $125m.
