Kansas Turnpike and other highways getting 75mph signs


Most of the Kansas Turnpike and other major state expressways in Kansas will be signed for a maximum 75mph, 120km/hr from July 1. In total some 807 miles, 1290km of highway will get the higher posted speeds, up 5mph from the 70mph, 113km now in place.

The Turnpike will 75mph, 120km/hr from the Oklahoma state line north to KS7 in Wyandotte Co.

Also getting the higher maximum posted speed will be I-70, US69, I-135 and US81.

They never seem to stop trying to blow up bridges out there in Kansas on the great plains. No matter the season - dust storms, tornado season, deep freeze - nothing will stop the Kansas Turnpike from scheduling a bridge blow.

Kansas Turnpike opens new unstaffed interchange


Kansas Turnpike report they opened their 22nd interchange today Tuesday Dec 29, mid-morning, on a cold windy day. A tongue-twister even in warm weather it's called the Tonganoxie-Eudora Interchange, and it is located at milepost 212 in Leavenworth County, a bit west of the outskirts of Kansas City.

Kansas Turnpike hold transponder tolls, hike cash tolls average 15% cars, 5% trucks


Kansas Turnpike are increasing cash tolls an average of 15% but keeping their K-TAG transponder tolls the same October 1st.  Increases for cash-paying tractor-trailers will increase an average of 5%. Turnpike president Michael L Johnston says the changes are "intended to better align our costs of providing service to various customer classes and, at the same time, achieve greater operating efficiencies."

Kansas Turnpike embarks on its largest bridge rebuild


Kansas Turnpike Authority has embarked on its largest rebuild project, letting a contract for new bridges over the Kansas River in Lawrence and reconstruction of interchanges and a toll plaza on one side. Project cost is around $140m of which construction is $113m. The existing steel truss bridges are 52 years old - they go back to the original construction of the Turnpike - and are judged in need of replacement.
