Delaware DOT operations people at the I-95 Delaware Turnpike anticipated major difficulties this Thanksgiving. The pre-Thanksgiving Wednesday is always an annual peak northbound, and the post-Thanksgiving Sunday is an annual peak southbound. Apparently immigrants to the more prosperous low tax states to the south (VA, NC, SC) go north on holidays to visit family and friends still living in the high tax states up north (NY, NJ, CT).
