Maine Turnpike's fight with town of York lands it legislative audit

The Maine Turnpike Authority (MTA) has been made the number one target of the state's Office of Program Evaluation and Governmental Accountability (OPEGA) due to the fight they picked with the town of York over a new toll plaza there.  The audit was initiated by Rep Dawn Hill of York who has become a strong critic of the Turnpike Authority over their refusal to consider alternatives to a wide open road toll (ORT) plus cash plaza at a new site in the area

New York state comptroller says extra Federal funding may reduce need for Thruway toll hike, hits ORT projects

New York State Comptroller Thomas P DiNapoli says in an audit of proposed toll increases by the New York State Thruway Authority (NYSTA) that the authority is underestimating the federal grants it can obtain from USDOT. The toll increases, he says, should be reconsidered. DiNapoli says NYSTA should be able to "conservatively" bank on getting $125m over five years 2008-2012 from the feds, whereas the NYSTA staff are only counting on $4.9m/year. He thinks they are missing out on $100m.

Audit of Orlando toller finds lax management, cozy consultants but no corruption

An extensive audit of the Orlando Orange County (Toll) Expressway Authority finds that consulting contracts have not be sufficiently competed, that controls over contracts and spending are often lax, records are poor, and that it needs to bring many functions in-house.

The authority concurs with many of the criticisms though it contests some. The audit was under the control of County Comptroller Martha O Haynie.
