West Virginia Turnpike will be posting an RFP for a new toll system to their website Thursday. In a preview the Turnpike's general manager Greg Barr told us they badly need a new system, both to maintain and improve service to motorists. The present toll system was installed by TransCore 1999-2000 when E-ZPass electronic tolling was begun.

California's old Title 21 electronic toll (ET) system spec written nearly 20 years ago by engineers at Hughes - long since departed ET - has life still. It is a requirement in the toll system RFP for the big new Port Mann toll bridge to carry Canada's Highway 1 over the Fraser River 24km (15 miles) east of Vancouver.

Penn Pike revives idea of cut in place of Allegheny Mtn tunnels - study RFP

Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission will be issuing an RFP shortly for a planning study of the future of their Allegheny Mountain tunnels. Two 2-lane tubes 1850m long they date back to 1940 and 1965. A study of alternatives in the 1990s concluded the tunnels should be abandoned in favor of a 67m (220ft) deep cut to the north of the tunnels.

GIBA operates a swing bridge that constitutes the only road access from mainland Florida to three barrier islands on the Gulf Coast known as North, Cole and Gasparilla Islands, located approximately between Fort Myers and Sarasota.
North Carolina Turnpike gets 12 companies bidding for pieces of toll collection

ACS, IBM and TransCore bid for all three components of toll collection in North Carolina. Two companies Kapsch, and Telvent/Caseta bid on two components: front-end roadside toll collection system (RTCS) and back office systems (BOS) leaving operations to someone else. Seven companies bid for just one of the three components.
