Golden Gate Bridge to have all-electronic toll system by last quarter of 2012

Golden Gate Bridge board of directors voted today (Jan 28) to end cash toll collection at the iconic San Francisco bridge with conversion to all-electronic toll (AET) collection. The vote was 13 for AET, 2 against. Yesterday (Jan 27) the Finance Committee voted for AET by 8 to 3. The schedule presented by staff aims to go fully live with AET between September and December 2012.

North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) will collect their last cash toll around 12:01am Saturday
Dec 11, they say in an announcement today. This will mark the largest system conversion to all-electronic tolling - transponder or license plate reads at highway speed - in North America so far.

Florida's Turnpike made the first step toward implementation of all-electronic toll (AET) operations with the beginning of toll-by-plate midnight Monday night (2010-10-11) on the southern 47 mile (76km) stretch of the Turnpike in the Miami-Dade area. Known as the Turnpike Extension (previously HEFT) from Mirimar looping a bit west and south to its end around the edge of the Miami Dade metro area it ends in the Florida City/Homestead area.
Atlantic City Expressway AET conversion has end May-2011 target

Bart Mueller executive director of the South Jersey Transportation Authority (SJTA) says they are shooting for conversion to all-electronic tolling (AET) at the Atlantic City Expressway (ACE) by "Memorial Day next year" - May 30, 2011. Planning of the AET and detailed work on the new toll system is well advanced, but civil construction to build about 50 gantries is only in procurement as we write.

By early August Oklahoma's turnpikes should all be fully equipped with TransCore's dual mode E6 readers (Encompass 6) to allow a start on a two to three year transition away from the existing hardcase/battery-equipped Allegro transponders to eGo Plus sticker tags. The reader infrastructure will consist of E6 readers installed in 377 toll lanes (plus 23 spares purchased) on ten turnpikes - 400 readers for $6m, they tell us.
