2012/12/29: The Triangle Expressway (TriEx), North Carolina's first modern era tollroad is now open over its full length and tolls will be collected beginning January 2, 2013. The opening  of the third of three phases was Thursday December 20.

2012-10-21: Segments 5 & 6 of Texas State Route 130 (TX130/5&6) are due to open to traffic Wednesday October 24, and the South Norfolk Jordan Bridge (SNJB) in Hampton Roads VA October 29. They are both investor-sponsored or private sector toll facilities, and both will be cashless or all-electronic tolling.

North Texas Tollway Authority today opened a 6.5 mile extension of the President George Bush Turnpike TX161 taking it from I-20 to I-30. 2x2 lanes the tollroad cost $420m. Six of eight direct connector ramps at the big PGBT interchange at I-30 remain to be complied, and are due to open early 2013.

Location is the south central portion of the Dallas-Ft Worth metro area.  

2012-09-20: Randy Spader, director of operations at the Ambassador Bridge says they're aiming to go all-electronic or cashless at the first of three tollpoints about October 1st. Trucks inbound to the US from Canada will be tolled by transponder or license plate cameras only, no more cash.

By mid-November motorists will have a new highspeed route between San Antonio and Dallas bypassing the I-35 congestion in the Austin area. Segments 5 and 6 of Texas SH130 will open late in the fall making a direct connection between I-35 at Georgetown on the northern end of the Austin area and I-10 near Seguin.

2012-05-15: Michigan state officials celebrated today opening of a two lane truck road that provides a route inside the plaza area that allows trucks from Canada using the Ambassador Bridge to get onto the I-75 interstate without using local streets. Traffic engineers tend to call such routes direct connectors, but this one is anything but direct.

The Austin Texas Mobility Authority opened a five mile, 8km extension of its TX183A tollroad today (Friday April 6). The extension in the Leander area to the northwest of central Austin involved $105 million construction of a 2x3 lane tolled expressway in a wide median reservation between untolled frontage road lanes that intersect with cross roads at grade.

The President George Bush Turnpike eastern extension (PGBT-EX) main lanes opened today (Dec 21) connecting the PGBT in Garland at SH78 to I-30. The 9.9 mile 15km pike cost $958m and comprises part of an envisaged belt route around the Dallas metro area.

A 2x3 main lanes highway it has a one-mile long bridge over Dallas' Lake Hubbard. Groundbreaking took place in August 2008.

Harold Bartlett executive secretary of MDTA, Maryland's toll authority tells us he's excited about what they and the State Highway Administration have achieved and feels entitled to "blow our trumpet a bit" to tell the world.

Maryland's new Inter County Connector (ICC) tollroad got off to a strong start today as the first 8.8 mile segment I-270 in Shady Grove to MD97 Georgia Avenue/MD28 opened. Barriers were removed at 1:15am Feb 23 westbound. The eastbound lanes opened about 3:20am.
