Chesapeake City VA approves toll hike, seasonally-varied toll rates

The City Council in Chesapeake voted eight to one March 23 to increase tolls on the Chesapeake Expressway tollroad that is the main link between I-64 in the Hampton Roads area and the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The council accepted a Steer Davies Gleave report recommending a new toll schedule that increases the base 2-axle toll from $2.00 to $3.00.

City proposing peak season tolls on Chesapeake Expressway VA - highway to the NC Outer Banks (ADDITIONS)

The City of Chesapeake which operates the Chesapeake Expressway is proposing a new toll structure with sharply higher toll rates on in-season, summer weekends when the tollroad is especially busy with traffic to and from the Outer Banks beach areas of northeastern North Carolina. The seasonally adjusted approach to toll setting draws on an interesting traffic and revenue study for the city by Steer Davies Gleave (SDG).
