Texas DOT signs $68m back office tolls contract with FSTech, also statewide front-end in procurement

Texas DOT this week signed with Federal Signal Technologies LLC (FSTech) to provide three years of back office
operations for the Texas DOT operated tollroads - for $68m. Two two-year extensions are optional. Three firms were ranked after four had been asked to submit bids. FSTech was scored highest followed by TransCore and ACS.

The approximate value of the 3 year contract is $68M. The contract provides for two 3 year extensions. FSTech’s major sub-contractors are Faneuil Inc., in Hampton, Virginia and Municipal Services Bureau (MSB), based in Austin, Texas.The contract primarily involves three busy TxDOT tollroads in the Austin area.

For some $12 billion of improvements planned over 15 years the Illinois Tollway is looking for project management services worth about $200m - let's revise that: expected to cost about $200m - for
(1) the $3.1b Elgin O'Hare Bypass project around the south and west of the Chicago area's big airport
(2) a $600m+ rebuild and expansion of the I-57/Tristate Tollway I-294 interchange and

Fed Sig Tech wins TxDOT back office procurement

Texas Transportation Commission has accepted a TxDOT recommendation that a new back office operations contract be awarded to Federal Signals Technologies (FSTech). Other contenders for the work were ACS (Affiliated Computer Services/Xerox), ETCC (Electronic Transactions Consultants Corp) and TransCore.
Mark Tomlinson retires from Turnpike Authority division of TxDOT (PERSONNEL)

Mark Tomlinson, director of the Texas Turnpike Authority division of TxDOT is retiring Aug 31 after three years in the position and 29 years at TxDOT.
An engineer he previously spent 12 years as TxDOT District Engineer in Amarillo, and before that 14 years in San Angelo.

Saenz, Simmons top TxDOT execs retire (PERSONNEL)

Amadeo Saenz TxDOT executive director and his deputy Steve Simmons both announced today they are retiring effective August 31. Saenz, 55, has been with TxDOT for 33 years and at the top for four years. Simmons, 53 goes back 28 years at the department and nearly ten years as #2.
The Texas Transportation Commission chair Deidre Delisi praised Saenz in a statement today saying:

TxDOT's tollroads in the Austin TX area continued healthy growth this year. Their Central Texas Turnpike System (CTTS) - TX130, Loop 1 and TX45N - report toll transactions up 5% to 78m in their 2010 fiscal year (to 2010-08-31).
TxDOT's 90% amnesty gets $767k, 1.25% of outstanding tolls & fees - now to courts

TxDOT's three month-long 90%-amnesty program on outstanding toll penalty fees garnered about 1.25% of scofflaw debt - $767k out of $61.6m. The recovery of unpaid tolls was much higher - $265k out of $3.2m or 8.3%. Recovery of violation fees was $501k out of $58.4m or about 0.9%.
10,580 people who took advantage of the 90% forgiveness program represented just over 7% of about 150,000 people with serious toll and penalty debts.
