Half CA/I-110 Express Lane users are solo driver buy-ins, tolls average 54c/mile


2012/11/26: Close to half the vehicles on the I-110 ExpressLanes in Los Angeles are toll paying after first two weeks operation, somewhat more than expected according to LA Metro project manager Stephanie Wiggins.

In the case of VA495XLs capital cost was $1.53 billion which was financed $350m equity, $589m TIFIA debt, and $589m PAB debt. That is the responsibility of the 75-year concessionaire Transurban with Fluor having a minor share. Virginia DOT spent another $409m for improvements to the same portion of the Beltway for items unrelated to the express lanes including sound walls,  new pavement and ramps and some 50 bridges involved in modernization of interchanges for the general purpose roadways.

2012/11/05: Los Angeles Metro and Caltrans open the first of two major toll express lanes facilities this coming Saturday November 10. Their first big trial with variable tolls managing traffic will be in the Monday rush hour Nov 12.

I-10, I-110 toll lanes in LA on go - but doubt over future HOV-toll conversions


Atkinson Construction got their notice-to-proceed from Los Angeles Metro in January on detailed design of a toll Express Lanes project on the I-10 and the I-110 - two of the busiest highways in the LA metro area. Actual construction is due to begin mid-year for an opening of 25 miles, 41km of 2x2 toll lanes late 2012.
