"Wet weather makes most US roads impassable" HEADLINE PRIZE

The Brit roadtraffic-technology.com deserves recognition for headline writing - a prize for the silliest headline we've spotted this winter so far.

"Most US roads"? We'll guess if you really search hard among local reports you'll find the odd roads here and there that are impassable, but we haven't seen any reports of impassable major roads.

Blue Water Bridge closed by heavy driving snow in western Ontario, Ambassador busy

50 inches of snow (1.27m) at the weekend and driving winds closed H402 Monday stranding thousands of motorists in their vehicles on the Ontario approach highway to the Blue Water Bridge. Canadian and US officials closed the bridge Tuesday eastbound to long-distance trucks to prevent them adding to the congestion on H402 in Ontario. The US approaches to the bridge on I-69 and I-75 are backed up with trucks for many miles.

Many NE highways including pikes dangerous, slow, a few closed in big wild snowstorm

The wild winter storm in the northeast US is causing major disruptions to highway travel including tollroads. Worst hit seem to Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York states but the storm seems to be dumping snow amid very high gusty winds all the way from Michigan in the west to Maine in the far northeast and down to West Virginia.

Ohio Turnpike closed by wild weather

The Ohio Turnpike was closed in its central section Friday night and into Saturday due to wild weather. A series of thunderstorms with winds of 80km/hr blew debris onto the Turnpike including the roof of a nearby barn. High voltage power lines were downed near Mile Post 140 in Lorain creating a serious hazard.

Local reports say both "lanes" of the Turnpike were closed.

Both? The Turnpike has six lanes.
