As of this morning Feb 1, 2011 Mark IV IVHS - the sole source supplier of E-ZPass group transponders and
readers since the inception of electronic toll collection in the mid-1990s -is no more. Gone is the heavy thick ultra-bold compressed MARKIV and the 'Reinventing the road' slogan underneath.

Kapsch, the large international toll systems company has completed the acquisition of Mark IV IVHS, the Toronto-based toll systems operation that has made a major business out of supplying E-ZPass electronic toll collection equipment since its introduction 12 years ago.

Mark IV are selling their multi-protocol Janus readers and some IAG E-ZPass style active TDM (time division multiplexing) transponders to OHL (Obrascon Huerte Lain) Concesiones, the toll concessions arm of a big Spain-based toll operator for use in Mexico. OHL will deploy the equipment on new all-electronic tollroads under construction in central Mexico.

Mark IV the exclusive supplier of readers and tags to the E-ZPass Inter Agency Group (IAG) since its inception in the early 1990s is now offering a multi-protocol reader (MPR) that will also read the new sticker tags from rivals TransCore, Sirit and Neology - the ISO 18000 6B (eGo Plus) and 6C tag protocols - that are sweeping pikes in the South.

Mark IV Industries major automobile-related businesses have filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy in federal bankruptcy court in New York City. This is the big brother to the Intelligent Vehicle Highway Systems division of Mark IV Industries that makes electronic toll systems, notably the transponders and readers for the E-ZPass Inter Agency Group.

Mark IV are announcing a transponder with lights and tones to provide feedback to motorists on whether their toll is properly paid, or their balance is low. A transponder with feedback is a requirement in the new E-ZPass procurement being conducted by the Inter Agency Group of 23 toll agencies in the north of the US and midwest.
