“I tried hard not to build freeways, but we built three times more than (Republican successors Pete) Wilson and (George) Deukmejian combined. Even without trying, we did more than those idiots,” said Jerry Brown at the state Democratic Party convention in San Jose. Brown who was the immediate post-Hippie era governor of the state 1975 to 1983, then Oakland mayor, is currently the state's elected Attorney-General.
