NJ toll concession proposal delayed by Corzine crash - transport chief

State transport commissioner Kris Kolluri said today that the car crash injuries to Gov Jon Corzine will delay presentation of the report on private concessions for the states tollroads.

The delay would likely be "a few weeks," he said until Gov Corzine is sufficiently recovered to take part in considerations and make decisions.  Since the plan was to have a presentation late this month, it seems that will now be about the end of May - all assuming Corzine recovers from his injuries within the timetable his doctors have suggested.

Kolluri was speaking at a public meeting of the South Jersey Transportation Authority which operates the Atlantic City Expressway. He is now chairman of the SJTA as well as chair of the New Jersey Turnpike Authority which operates the Turnpike plus the Garden State Parkway.

State treasurer Bradley Abelow and Kolluri have been given charge of the work being undertaken with Credit Suisse financial consultants to come up with detailed proposals on what should be done about longterm leasing and how to go about it.

Kolluri rejected criticism as premature since the Corzine administration doesn't yet have a final proposal. He said the detailed proposal will address the points raised by critics such as the effects on the existing labor force, and maintenance.
