Penn Pike chief of ops in 'accelerated rehabilitative disposition' for drunks

Say it clearly three times, getting quicker each time: Ac-cel-er-ated Re-hab-il-it-a-tive Dis-pos-ition, Accelerated Rehab-il-itative Dis-position, Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition.

Ok, if you said it without stumbling or getting tongue-tied on the third, the fast shot, you're off free.

You passed Pennsylvania's innovative and progressive sobriety test.

George Hatalowich, 44, chief operating officer of the Pennsylvania Turnpike is applying for admittance into the "Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition" program for drinking drivers.

This was reported by the district attorney's office in Dauphin County yesterday when Hatalowich was formally arraigned on charges of drunk driving on the night of April 5. He was also charged with careless driving, property damage and leaving the scene of an accident.

Hatalowich crashed his private car into the fence of the Hershey amusement park at around 9:30pm. He managed to drive away, although he drove British, on the left side of the road.

But the police had been alerted and they pulled him over not far away. His blood alcohol level was reported by police to be 0.137% v the legal limit of 0.080% - too high by a factor of 1.71.

Under accelerated rehabilitative disposition Hatalowich will go into an accelerated - two weeks instead of two months -  rehabilitation program and if he doesn't flunk it will have his drunk driving charges "dispositioned" - lawyerspeak for dumped.
