CTRMA hikes TX183A tolls Jan 1
Central Texas RMA are increasing tolls 15% at their Park Street mainline toll point Jan 1. Transponder or TxTag tolls rise from $1.35 to $1.55 while camera-based tolls for non-transponder equipped vehicles - Pay By Mail they call it there - goes from $1.80 to $2.07.
Toll rates at the Lakeline Plaza and Brushy Creek ramps remain the same.
The increase was planned in 2005 when bonds were sold to fund construction of 183A.
CTRMA say: "The increase is needed to keep up with inflation, ensure the financial stability of the Mobility Authority and to help back additional bonds funding a five-mile northern extension of 183A that is slated to go to construction in spring 2010."
The five-mile (8km) extension will run from FM1431 in Cedar Park to just north of RM2243 in Leander. It is due to open in 2012.

Once the extension is opened, the TxTag toll rate at the Park Street Main Plaza will be reduced from $1.55 to $1.25. There will be a new toll point on the northern extension south of Crystal Falls Parkway.
Planned tolls are shown in the table from CTRMA nearby.
CTRMA is a public toll authority in the Austin TX area. The state DOT has three tollroads in the area and Cintra a concessionaire is developing another. CTRMA is building the Manor Expressway (TX290) in addition to the 183A and its extension.
