Ambassador Bridge's King Matty Canoot (EDITORIAL)
Talk about trying to order back the tide!
Ambassador Bridge owner Matty Moroun is fighting in the courts to try suppress a safety inspection report on his toll bridge. His lawyers cite national security and various confidentiality agreements.
Piffle. 100% piffle.
No report on the safety condition of a publicly used bridge can possibly be justified as "secret."
And even if such a foolish classification were attached to the report, no one in this USofA can keep that from leaking. This is not North Korea.
Besides the report has been all over the place.
Copies of the report have been seen by the company that does the inspections, for a start. Then it's been knocking around at Michigan DOT, and the Federal Highway Administration.
US Congressman John Dingell and his staff have it also.
Dingell says in a statement: "Thousands of individuals and truckers use the Ambassador Bridge every day and I believe they are entitled to know the state of Ambassador Bridge before doing so."
The congressman is exactly right.
And anyone who thinks this report is not going to come out - by one means or another - is suffering serious delusions.
Any lawyers who claimed they could suppress this report should have been laughed right out of the bridge offices - editor.
