Sirit announce new reader for less expensive ORT

Sirit have brought out a new multi-protocol reader to improve their toll offering. Called the IDentity 5200 (or ID5200) it is described as "ruggedized" and providing more flexibility than the ID5100, presently the company's major toll reader. The ID5200 reader can cover two full lanes of traffic and read transponders of two quite different protocols.

No specification sheet or price is yet available but the reader is claimed to provide much lower cost open road  and HOT lanes toll collection.

Sirit  have a corporate policy of only working with open standards. Sirit's name derives from TIRIS which was the name of a Texas Instruments division that wrote the standards known as Title 21 for California. The company was sold to Canadians in the 1990s. They got the name backwards.

Sirit dominate the California electronic toll equipment market with Title 21 equipment.

They have also recently sold ISO 18000 6C standard sticker tag toll systems to several countries in South America.

Sirit are a bidder in Georgia for the I-85 HOT lanes procurement, which requires open standard toll gear.
