Eight-fold increase in WV E-ZPass sales

In the first month after the toll increase West Virginia Turnpike sold about 2500 E-ZPass transponders, an eight-fold increase on normal monthly sales of around 300. Turnpike manager Greg Barr told his board this at their monthly meeting this week. On August 1st cash and external E-ZPass toll rates went up around 60%.

However toll rates with West Virginia E-ZPass accounts provide deep discounts, and this has spurred uptake of transponders.

West Virginia E-ZPass for a $5 annual fee provide car tolls at $1.50 at mainline plazas, a 25% discount on the $2.00 where there was none before on the $1.25 toll.

5-axle trucks are billed $5.06 on WV/E-ZPass v $4.25 before

.

An established flat rate $25/quarter, $95/year commuter fee called (PACC) provides for unlimited trips by non-commercial vehicles past a specified mainline toll plaza requires a local E-ZPass account also.
