Google advertising on old billboards - Mass Pike

It sounds like man bites dog, but Internet giant Google is renting space on old-fashioned highway billboards to promote its on-line business. As part of its competition with Microsoft it is promoting Google Apps, the search company's "suite" of internet-based programs covering the ground of MS Office.

Highway billboards will carry the Google Apps message in San Francisco, Chicago, New York and Boston initially - a different message every day. In Boston, the Globe newspaper reports, the Google Apps ads appear on a billboard beside the Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90) near the Allston toll plaza.
