Were we conned over early Garden State Parkway token? (CORRECTION)
We're wondering: were we conned by a guy seeking to sell to collectors a 1952 New Jersey Highway Authority token for the
Garden State Parkway? We wrote up his advertisement Feb 7 here:

A New Jersey reader has just told us he only remembers tokens coming into widespread use in about 1990.
That email caused us to immediately google 'Garden State Parkway' and 'token' which threw up this piece we'd written last year (and forgotten) where we said that the New Jersey Highway Authority only issued tokens in the 1980s and they only came into widespread use after a 1989 toll increase to 35c and a substantial discount for token use.

Maybe what Stutt had is not a toll token but a commemorative medal struck for the opening of the Parkway?
We haven't got to the bottom of this, but for now our message is: Collectors beware.
