Alligator Alley bid date postponed Jan to May because of financial crisis

The global financial crisis has prompted the postponement of the bid deadline for a toll concession to operate Alligator Alley (I-75) across southern Florida. Florida DOT, the concession grantor says the new deadline is May 8. Previously bids were due Jan 9.

A statement by FDOT says that the global financial uncertainty adversely affected the ability of potential bidders to move forward at this time. Potential bidders had asked for the delay.

The statement says in background:

"Alligator Alley is a 78-mile (125km) section of Interstate I-75 in South Florida connecting the southwestern and southeastern coastal areas of Florida. It was originally constructed during the late 1960s as a two-lane, controlled access toll road and was known in the original bond documents as Everglades Parkway. From 1986 to 1992, Alligator Alley was widened to four-lanes and made a limited access, tolled, interstate facility (I-75)."
