PBS&J to share work with HNTB as general consultants to Florida Turnpike Enterprise

Florida Turnpike Enterprise (FTE) has selected PBS&J and HNTB to share work as general consultants under a five year contract worth $30m to $35m a year. PBS&J previously had an exclusive contract as general consultant, going back to 1988.

Florida toll authorities make major use of contractors and consultants to effectively staff their engineering departments, the state's Turnpike Enterprise being the leading one by far in volume of work. PBS&J will manage a bunch of sub-consultants who formed a team bidding for the contract but they also have some 500 employees of their own in central Florida where the FTE has its head offices.

FTE has a billion dollar a year program of construction so there's a lot of engineering planning, design and management to go around.

The Orlando-based company also has a heavy presence at the Orlando Orange County (OOCEA) toll authority, and it also has work all over the south and the west.

HNTB based in Kansas City has toll industry work all over the country.

Such services contracts generally bid hourly rates for different job grades. PBS&J bid job grades between $40 and $245 an hour, according to a spreadsheet from FTE.
