Florida Turnpike extending cars-only left lanes

Thirty "NO TRUCKS LEFT LANE" signs are going up on 65km (40 miles) more of Florida's Turnpike. Enforcement of the truck ban will begin Feb 1 with tickets of $130.
The new stretch with cars-only left lanes extends from the Golden Glades Interchange just north of Miami to Lantana Toll Plaza (MP88). The Lantana Toll Plaza is the southern end of the central ticket system of the Turnpike.
The first left lane truck ban was put in place on 32km (20mi) of the Homestead Extension (HEFT) of the
Turnpike which is a western bypass around the Miami area.
Cars-only lanes are only placed on roadway with three lanes or more per direction, so that at least two lanes remain for trucks.
Turbpike officials say that safety is improved and that traffic flow is improved by the measure. They say it reduces potentially dangerous lane changes by large trucks, and stops them blocking the left lane.
The measure is popular with car drivers who have a less obstructed trip.
The Ohio Turnpike has a similar trucks ban in its left lanes over the length of its 3 lane sections which almost span the state.
