ITRCC opens first widened stretch of pike

Indiana Toll Road Concession Company (ITRCC) has opened the first stretch of widened
roadway - 2.8km (1.8 miles) - at the eastern end of a stretch of 16km (10 miles) being widened with a third travel lane plus inside shoulder each direction. It is a widening project between mile markers 10 and 20 measured from west to east - in the barrier section heavily used by commuters in to the Chicago area.
The company is committed to the project under the terms of their 75 year concession/lease agreement with the state. About $250m is expected to be spent on improvements. The work is being done by a joint venture of Spain based Ferrovial and Rieth-Reilly, an Indiana firm.
ITRCC CEO Fernando Redondo is quoted: "We are excited to complete the first phase of this massive project. Improvements such as this continue to solidify our commitment to stress free and dependable travel for our patrons.â€
The new 3+3 lane roadway has full breakdown shoulder each side each direction.
