Dallas North Tollway Phase 3 opens Sept 28
Dallas North Tollway Phase 3 extension running from SH121 to US380 will open to traffic Sept 28, North Texas Tollway Authority say. 3+3 main lanes the new pike is 15.5km (9.6mi) long and is costing $264m. Landowners keen to get the road donated 95% of the right of way.
At 93 lane-km (57.6) lane-miles the project cost is $2.85m/lane-km ($4.58m/lane-mile).
The new segment has six interchanges with exits and/or entrances at Gaylord Parkway, Lebanon Road, Stonebrook Parkway, Cotton Gin Road/Main Street, and Eldorado Parkway. The mainline toll plaza is located between Eldorado Parkway and Main Street.
Mainline toll plaza tolls will be $1.30 cash and $1.05 transponder. Ramp tolls are less.
NTTA is separately planning the phase out of cash toll collection, so this will probably be the last NTTA facility to open with cash.
Planning for the 22km (13.5mi) Phase 4 extension of the Dallas North Tollway, from US380 to the Grayson County line, is already underway.
HNTB are the lead engineers on the project.
BACKGROUND: The Dallas North Tollway (DNT) has opened in stages from mid-1968, and before Phase 3 was 36km (22.4mi) long running from just north of downtown Dallas due north.
It is 3+3 travel lanes throughout although an extra auxiliary lane is in design in the far southern portion, where major improvements
are under way.
