Philip Shucet has left Macquarie after just a few months as managing director of Macquarie Securities (USA) in New York. He says he has left to go back and live in Virginia Beach with his family and to manage his small real estate firm there.
He told us: "I absolutely loved my time with Macquarie. It's a fantastic company."
Shucet was appointed to the senior position in April.
But he didn't want to uproot his young family from Virginia Beach or go on commuting back and forth between the family and New York City and other travel involved in the job. There was also a hint of disappointment in his voice that PPPs or toll concessions are slow to be adopted in the the US.
"I think the future is extremely bright for P3s in the long term."
Shucet has been a project manager on a number of major tollroad projects with Michael Baker & Co. He was one of the first champions of another Hampton Roads crossing, was in charge of the first studies of that, and has advocated toll financing. He got a start in roads at Arizona DOT and worked with Mary Peters.
He was transportation commissioner of Virginia Apr 2002 to Jun 2005 under Governor Mark Warner (Dem).
Reason veteran joining Macquarie
Veteran Reason Foundation researcher, writer and organizer Geoffrey Segal is joining Macquarie in their Washington DC office. He'll be doing government and external relations. Segal was director of privatization and government reform at the thinktank. He was closely associated with reform governors in Florida, Virginia and Indiana.
