A columnist in the ATLANTA CHRONICLE commented that only in present-day Atlanta would a regional planning commission consider a new gasoline tax when the price of the stuff is already soaring. And he suggests that after renaming so many highways after any Democrat who promises not to desert, officialdom consider some fresh new names for local byways, including the Newt Gingrich Outer Perimeter, the George W. Bush Bypass (to Texas) and the Wendell Cox Northern Arc, after the OFallon IL consultant who has been so prominent in local discussions of transport plans there. Happy to report the Cox Arc is the most real project, and a likely tollroad to boot.
