“Face it, no one is forced to use toll roads; they’re often the best, but hardly the only, routes from point A to point B. And remember, though tolls are unpopular, it isn’t the Road Fairy who’d pay for upkeep of those 274 miles of heavily used freeways if and when tolls vanish. It would be drivers who buy gasoline in Illinois. Have it your way: you can pay your tolls and watch drivers from other states subsidize Illinois tollways by doing the same, or you can support the system with your gas taxes.
