It’s a great pity the Dubbya Bush bunch were too timid during the election campaign to draw serious public attention to Gore’s “Earth in the Balance” book, which is so unbalanced that it makes Ted ‘Unabomber’ Kaczinski’s writings seem moderate, and sane, by comparison. Recall the statement that the present automobile is a more deadly threat than any military enemy. There’s rhetoric for page after page assailing mankind for “frenzied destruction” addiction to “the consumption of the earth itself” etc etc. The Gore book is an outpouring of unalloyed loathing for our species. It should have raised questions about whether the author is a person fit to run a city water treatment plant, let alone a nation.
