The nation’s best weather forecasters were apparently unanimous, in the early summer. North America was set up to have an unusually active hurricane season. Watch out, batten down the hatches, put in the emergency supplies, they said. Of course it has been an unusually IN-active hurricane season, with not a single hurricane having gotten near the US. If they get it so wrong 3 months ahead you’d better believe there’s a lot of uncertainty about forecasts 30 or 50 or 100 years out.
