Five of Europe’s leading toll motorway are embracing interoperability with a self-swipe card.. An agreement – rather grandiosely termed an ‘accord’ – was signed by Autsostrade and Austostrade dei Fiori in Italy, Autoroutes du Sud in France and Escota and Cesa in

Spain. They termed it “an unprecedented step towards the creation of a unified motorway network across Europe”. The companies account for more than a third of Europe’s 16,000km toll motorway system and said they would be looking to see whether other companies in Portugal, Austria, Belgium, Greece and Slovenia might be willing to join in the unified payment network.
