The USEPA isnt just after polluters but gougers too. Robert Perciasepe, administrator for air pollution programs said (WP 6/13/00 pA5) there was no good explanation for the recent high prices of gasoline and called them unfair and inappropriate. An EPA official spokesman said it was gouging. A White House spokesman called prices out of whack.
The EPA had been in on a meeting with eight oil refiners and sent field inspectors to Milwaukee and Chicago to investigate reported price increases there.
These guys are an outrage. They have no legal authority over prices or pricing, and no expertise in it (or anything much else actually.) Moreover they are part of the same righteous fanatical movement that has been telling us for some years that were spoilt in America and that energy prices, especially gasoline prices, should be much higher than they are.
