Despite news reports to the contrary, the lights did NOT stay on everywhere on New Year’s Day. Two whole counties in Tennessee were plunged into darkness early on the morning of Jan 1st. So the ‘Y2K bug’ was alive and well in hillbilly country? Well, no, the local power supplier, Tennessee Valley Authority, said the system was shorted out by a squirrel, whose life ended in an ugly flash atop a power tower in the early minutes of the new millennium.
