Finding 11km (7mi) Surplus Road

Every description we’ve ever seen of the Fredericton-Moncton toll road (F-MTR) in New Brunswick has had it 195km in length (119mi). But we’re told that figure was always based on a rough calculation based on aerial photography and preliminary designs. A whole host of small changes get worked into detailed design and actual construction on any road. These normally pretty much cancel out. But when they recently did an on-the-ground survey in NB they found the F-MTR measures 206km (126mi), an amazing 5.6% or 11km (7mi) longer than the concept. Who knows how this will be taken (1) MRDC delivering a big bonus to the citizens of NB by way of more road and scenery for their tolls, or (2) hitting them with a longer journey than they had banked on.
