France’s Multi-lane ET

France faces two major obstacles to implementation of highway speed open road electronic tolling, according to the Association of French Motorway Companies (ASFA). In a recent publication in English “The Intelligent Highway” ASFA says technical problems have not yet been solved: “If the lanes do not have barriers at the extremities, the equipment cannot manage the mixed type of traffic found in areas surround towns with complete reliability. As yet it is not capable of identifying the different categories of vehicles without risk of error.”
