Southern Californias toll transponders called FasTrak recently passed the quarter million mark. The patron who received the 250,000th tag from the Transportation Corridors Agencies in Orange Co said he will use it primarily for leisure travel and occasional business trips, not for commuting. Such occasional users are increasingly the norm.
TCA recently placed an order for another 100k tags with Sirit of Toronto. The price is understood to be around $24ea, a drop from the $28 being charged previously by MFS. MFS was buying the tags from Sirit under an exclusive marketing arrangement within the US. Amtech is now bidding to supply toll equipment and tags in California under the open state standard known as Title 21. Its first sale is to the Golden Gate bridge authority.
