The new generation of container ships are getting up to 65m (213') which is coming awfully close to snagging even some of America’s grandest bridges. The Golden Gate on the entrance to San Francisco Bay is 67m (220') above high water and the Verrazano over NY harbor is 69.5m (228'). Many US bridges over shipping channels are only 52m (172').
