The $1.3b inner area toll road project links three radial motorways never completed in to the CBD, and provides new improved access to the center, as well as bypass. It is entirely investor-financed, with the Sydney based Macquarie bank group the largest of the owners. 200k out of an expected 700k electronic toll tags have been manufactured at a local NEC factory to Combitech of Sweden’s 5.8GHz CEN278 specs. There will be no on-highway toll collection, but people who want to drive the road without an e-tag will be able to call in ahead of time and give their license plate details so the video enforcement system won’t have the cops after them.
